HGU-2A/P in Swiss air force service

Message 629, Jan 25, 2004
Hi all, One of our new members, a Swiss collector with callsign SIWA, sent me some very interesting pictures of an HGU-2A/P helmet used by the Swiss air force. Just like the Swiss H-5 helmets this HGU-2A/P was modified with a British 'Visor, Anti-Glare, Mk.2', the one usually associated with the British Mk.1A helmets. It is a bit confusing that the visor is called Mk.2 when it is used on Mk.1A helmets but that is the way it is according to a 1960 Helmets Ltd. Mk.1A helmet brochure (kindly provided by HUD).
The HGU-2A/P is even more interesting because it has a pattern of filled holes that clearly show that this particular helmet used to have a three-piece ramshorn visor assembly.
Cheers, Bluelight
