Hi Docboink, I do believe you are correct in saying that the ALPHA Type117 was replaced by the FFV Type116C set-up. I may be able to get more knowledge of them from the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) at the end of July.
Regards, Zipper One.

Yo Zipper One! Welcome back from Mildenhall. I am sure it was a stimulating experience. Nice photo of the FFV Flyghjalm Typ 116C. Too bad I wasn't there with you, so as to be able to create a diversion while you walked off, arm-in-arm with the mannikin! The frequently abused term "to die for" does come to mind, when gazing upon all that luxurious aluminum & polymeric wizardry. I understand the Typ 117 (Alpha) was replaced by this set-up for the Gripen (?).
Cheers, DocBoink

Hi Zipper One, Very interesting helmet type 116C. Did you notice the yellow labels on the oxygen mask and the back of the helmet? The one on the back of the helmet reads: "Övningsmateriel Ej för flygning" which is Swedish for "Training equipment Not for flight use".
Cheers, Steen

Hi everyone, I have just returned from the Mildenhall Air Show in Suffolk and the only item of interest on display was this Swedish helmet on a mannekin next to the Swedish gripen aircraft. Try as I may I was not able to beg, steal, borrow, buy or trade the helmet for my collection!! The only answer I got for my requests were that it was more than their life was worth to not return it back to Sweden on their return!! Maybe one day..........!!!
